Who we are
Mudgley Gardening & Fencing is a trading name of Dennis Phillips, sole trader, based near Axbridge, Somerset. We decide how the personal details you give us are used, so under UK data protection law we are the controller of them. You can reach us by phone or WhatsApp on 07594 230584 or by email at dvjdennis@yahoo.co.uk.
What we collect
- The quote form: your name, phone number, email address, postcode or village, the service you pick, your message if you add one, a photo of the job if you attach one, the page you sent the form from, and your tick to say you are happy for us to contact you about your enquiry.
- Calls and WhatsApp: your phone number, what you tell us about the job and any photos you send.
- Facebook messages and email: your name or profile, your contact details and what you write.
- If you go ahead with a job: the address of the job, what we agreed, and the invoice and payment record.
We don't ask for anything sensitive, such as health details, and we don't knowingly collect details from children.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To reply to you, arrange a visit if one is needed and give you a quote. The lawful basis is steps you have asked us to take before a contract.
- To do the job and keep a record of it. The lawful basis is our contract with you.
- To keep the accounts and tax records the law requires. The lawful basis is a legal obligation.
- To follow up on an enquiry you have sent, for example if a message didn't reach us properly. The lawful basis is our legitimate interests in running the business, which we only rely on in ways you would expect.
- To count visits with Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We don't add you to a mailing list, we don't send marketing, and we never sell or share your details for anyone else's marketing.
Who handles it for us
- Netlify (Netlify, Inc.) hosts this website and runs the quote form: it stores your form message and emails it to us. Netlify is based in the United States, so your details may be stored there. Where details leave the UK, Netlify must protect them with the safeguards UK law requires.
- Our email provider holds the form emails and any emails you send us.
- Google Analytics (Google) counts visits, but only if you accept analytics cookies. If you don't, it never loads.
If you ring, WhatsApp or message us on Facebook, those services carry the message under their own privacy policies. We only share your details with anyone else if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don't become a job: up to 12 months, then we delete them.
- Job records: for as long as we need them for our accounts and tax. HMRC asks sole traders to keep business records for at least five years after the 31 January deadline for that year's tax return.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the details we hold about you;
- ask us to correct them, or to delete them;
- ask us to limit how we use them, or object to how we use them;
- ask for the details you gave us in a format you can take elsewhere;
- withdraw your consent to analytics cookies at any time, from "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page.
Ring, WhatsApp or email us to use any of these rights. It is free, and we will reply within one month.
How to complain
If you are unhappy with how we have used your details, please tell us first and we will try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or ring their helpline on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
The site sets no cookies until you make a choice in the cookie banner. Our cookie policy lists every cookie and how to change your settings.
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this site. Every link, button and form field works with a keyboard, every photo has a short written description, the form fields all have labels, and videos never play with sound by themselves. If your device asks for reduced motion, the moving parts stay still.
If something doesn't work for you, tell us which page and we will fix it or get you the information another way.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your details, we will update this page and the date at the top.
