Who has us in regularly?
Laurel Farm Glamping, who left this recommendation on our Facebook page in July 2026. It is quoted word for word. It is one of the two recommendations we have so far; new reviews now go on our Google profile.
Dennis works regularly with us and keeps our lawn in the glamping area pristine, which is no mean feat!! As well as anything else that is required on the Farm, fencing, strimming, maintenance. He’s a really big help, a hard worker and keen to help wherever required. We’re really happy to have him work with us…

Recent runs
Which runs have we put in?
Two recent ones, both on our Facebook page: 50 metres of post and half-round rail with stock wire at Mark, and 45 metres of post and rail with a 12 ft field gate at Rooksbridge. Each has its own page with the photos or the video.
How it works
How does a bigger run work?
We come out and walk the line with you, then quote for the run, free and with no obligation. Field fencing always gets a visit first, because the ground, the access and the length decide the job. The quote is emailed to you or given on the day.
We walk the line
We come out, walk the boundary with you and measure the run.
A free quote
Emailed to you or given on the day, set out for the run. No obligation.
Posts, rails and wire

What affects the cost of a field fence?
Six things, mainly. We don't publish prices because every run is different, but these are what we look at when we walk the line. The quote itself is free, emailed to you or given on the day, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
Length of the run
How many metres, and whether it follows one straight boundary or turns corners.
Rail style
Half-round or sawn rails, and how many rails high.
Stock wire
Whether the rails carry stock wire or stand on their own.
Ground and access
Soft, stony or wet ground for the posts, and how easily materials reach the line.
Gates
How many gates, how wide, and the posts to hang them on.
What is there now
Whether an old fence or overgrowth has to come out of the line first.

Questions
Questions from farms and businesses
What are the main types of farm fencing?
The common types of agricultural fencing are post and rail (timber rails between posts), post and wire (strands of wire on posts) and stock netting (a woven wire mesh on posts, often with a rail along the top). Which suits depends on what the field is for. We put up post and rail, and half-round rail with stock wire.
Do you look after grounds on a regular visit?
Yes. Lawn mowing, strimming and tidy-ups can be one-off or regular, within about 10 to 15 miles of Axbridge. Laurel Farm Glamping has us in regularly, as their recommendation says.
Do you hang field gates?
Yes. The 45 metre post and rail run we put in at Rooksbridge was finished with a 12 ft field gate. A gate can be quoted with a new fence or on its own.
Can you quote for field fencing from photos?
Not usually. Fencing always gets a visit first, so we can walk the line, check the ground and measure the run. Hedges and grounds work we can often quote from photos.
Which post and rail fence suits your field, paddock or smallholding? What fence works on wet clay or an exposed site in Somerset? What affects the cost of a new fence in Somerset?
Got a boundary that needs fencing?
Tell us roughly what you need and where. We will come out, walk the line and give you a free quote, emailed or on the day.
